About the SnowSport Safety Foundation
The SnowSport Safety Foundation (SSF) is a not-for-profit organization established in 2008 to improve snow-sport safety and injury prevention through research, data analysis, information access and education. It is driven by its vision for a snow-sport recreational environment in which critical audiences and stakeholders have access to necessary, readily available and reliable information to effectively minimize preventable deaths and injuries.
The SSF will conduct ongoing, comprehensive research and data review on ski and snowboard fatalities; categorized injury rates, identification and cataloging of best safety practices throughout California, the country and the world, including protective wear and devices; and frequency of death and injury litigation and outcomes by each state. The SSF seeks to be established as a primary resource and reference point for information on snow-sport safety.
The formation of SSF was initiated by the California Ski and Snowboard Safety Organization (CSSSO), whose mission is to promote and support safety improvements in California skiing, snowboarding and recreational snow sports and serve as an independent, factual public resource regarding the safety of California ski resorts. Launched in 2007, CSSSO seeks to work collaboratively with ski resorts to establish best-practice safety standards, policies and procedures uniformly across the state.
